Maoism Comes to America

Here’s why the left’s secular religion — affirmative action plus climate change — is so important. As with the worst of traditional religion, the left’s dogmatic believers, mostly educated whites, seem beyond reason’s reach.

Just take it from one of their own, New York Timesman David Brooks. Discussing his own recent conversion away from atheism, Brooks wrote:

Secular religions are really good at identifying some evils, like oppression, and building a moral system against them. Divine religions are primarily oriented to an image of pure goodness, pure loving kindness, holiness. In periodic glimpses of radical goodness — in other people, in sensations of the transcendent — I felt, as Wendell Berry put it, “knowledge crawl over my skin.” The biblical stories from Genesis all the way through Luke and John became living presences in my life. These realizations transformed my spiritual life: awareness of God’s love, participation in grace, awareness that each person is made in God’s image.

Our last blog post on the new secular religion quoted Daniel Mahoney. Similar to Brooks, Mahoney contrasted the secular focus on hating “hate” with Christ’s uplifting call for repentance.

Brooks suggests this new humanist “faith” doesn’t respect reason:

In a society that is growing radically more secular every day, I’d say we have more to fear from political dogmatism than religious dogmatism. We have more to fear from those who let their politics determine their faith practices and who turn their religious communities into political armies. We have more to fear from people who look to politics as a substitute for faith. [emphasis added]

Progressive dogmatism’s “gifts” include:

  • We will be safer without police.
  • Trump caused the border crisis by closing the border.
  • Requiring voter ID will end fair elections.
  • Oppressing your enemy is a sign of tolerance.
  • Free speech is a danger to democracy.
  • “Equity” doesn't mean special treatment.

And of course, “anti-racism” isn't racist.

The “new religion” has its own version of wearing a cross around one’s neck. It’s the mask, the U.S. left’s Chairman Mao button.

There are in general terms 24 Blue states and 26 Red states. All the Blue states except Wisconsin require their people to wear masks. All the Red states except Ohio and West Virginia don’t.

Many people in Blue states wear masks to avoid being called out and abused. Or fined. Welcome to the “new religion’s” hold on half America.
