Cable News: Sorta FOX News

Image
FOX has increased its domination of cable news ratings. Its top two shows, "Tucker Carlson Tonight" and "The Five", nearly double the audience of their MSNBC and CNN competitors combined. The competition is so weak that "Fox Primetime," at 7 pm Eastern with no permanent anchor -- hosts rotate weekly -- handily beat the combined total for both Joy Reid (MSNBC) and Erin Burnett (CNN).  "Fox Primetime's" audience meant every show in the 4 pm to midnight line-up -- every show including non-prime Cavuto at 4 pm and Gutfeld at 11 pm -- topped the highest rated non -FOX show (MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow"). CNN had no primetime show with an audience over 870,000. The one-time cable news standared finished behind both FOX and MSNBC in every hour.       Top Cable News Shows         Network       Audience (mil., 11/16/21)    MSNBC+CNN   1.Tucker Carlson Tonight           FOX  ...

Wokeism is the New Religion’s Name

Shellenberger               McWhorter Michael Shellenberger is author of Apocalypse Never and San Fransicko , and a TIME “Hero of Environment.” As a climate changer but cancel culture target, he experiences environmental religion up close. Shellenberger places the two under one word—“Wokeism.” Religion isn’t science. Shellenberger reminds us  of facts our Woke media ignore or hide: despite the decline in police killings of African Americans, the share of the public which said police violence is a serious or extremely serious problem rose from 32% to 45% between 2015 and 2020. Despite the decline in carbon emissions, 47% of the public agreed with the statement, “Carbon emissions have risen in the United States over the last 1...

Yesterday’s Earthquake

Though it feels like forever, we are still in the first year of Biden’s term. And while he has been busy shrinking the presidency and avoiding the press, Vice President Kamala Harris has pulled a total disappearing act. Perhaps America can go on like this for four years. But I don’t see how. — Michael Goodwin ( NY Post ), Writing Two Days Before the Quake Shane Goldmacher, with his “5 Takeaways: How Youngkin’s Win Makes Democrats Squirm About 2022,” seeks to ease the pain NY Times readers feel from the Virginia defeat’s aftershock: 1. Youngkin’s success across the state offers a G.O.P. pathway.     Message: We have one year to counter GOP’s education pitch to Mama Bears. Get going! 2. All politics are presidential. But Biden loomed larger than Trump.     Message: When we scream “Trump!” and let Biden speak, we lose. 3. The G.O.P. margins make it even more worrisome for Democrats in 2022.      Message: A 12-point shift to GOP is...
