According to the January 2022
Harvard-Harris Poll (PDF), the FOX News favorable/unfavorable rating is 46% to 37%. That's a favorable rating of Plus 9! For some perspective, CNN rates 41% to 42%, or unfavorable by -1.
FOX News has a big lead over MSNBC and CNN combined in the latest AdWeek primetime ratings:
Week of January 17-23
Cable News Network Primetime Audience (ave. mil.) Cable Rank Overall (incl. ESPN, etc.)
FOX 2.43 # 1
MSNBC 1.19 # 3
CNN 0.58 #14
MSNBC + CNN 1.77
FOX News also holds all five slots in the cable news' Top 5 ranking, with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow down to #7:
Top Cable News Shows Network Audience (mil., Jan 17-21)
1. The Five FOX 3.74
2. Tucker Carlson Tonight FOX 3.39
3. Hannity FOX 3.17
4. Brett Baier FOX 2.71
5. Ingraham Angle FOX 2.31
7. Rachel Maddow MSNBC
Comparing cable news shows to those on the three leading networks is apples to oranges. First, network entertainment programming in primetime is a bigger draw. Second, the networks, with their local outlets, have a wider reach than cable. Third, network news -- just 22 minutes minus commercials -- is slanted toward soft segments. Nevertheless, network news does better:
Network News Shows Network Audience (mil., Jan 17-21)
David Muir ABC 8.96
Lester Holt NBC 7.82
Norah O'Donnell CBS 5.70
The gap between O'Donnell and the top FOX News show (The Five) is -2 million. And Brett Baier's hard news show is even farther behind, -3 million, with an audience less than half that of O'Donnell's. Apples and oranges. If it's news you're after, go FOX.
