“It’s Over” indeed.

Julian Epstein is a Democratic Party strategist who helped President Clinton navigate through sticky political issues. Epstein faults Obama for “a set of ideas and tactics” causing the Democrats’ 2024 loss, including “Demography is Destiny” — “a kind of manifest destiny of the left, adopted in the second Obama term, that promises an ever-diversifying electorate would inexorably vote Democratic [influenced by] cartoonish appeals to identity and big government wardship.”  Epstein also hit Obama’s emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), on the era’s hormone therapies and surgeries on youth, and the failure of Obama’s leaning toward Iran and away from Israel in the Middle East. We welcome Epstein’s January 4 burial of the “Obama Era.” Readers will recall our “It’s Over” blog entry on November 12, 2024 , documenting Obama’s political passing.

It’s Over.

since the rise of Barack Obama, Democrats have seen themselves as destined to rule. With his presidential victory in 2008, they created a seemingly unbridgeable political empire. With the support of big cities, young progressives, universities, the media and an ever-expanding government workforce, the party [] imagined it could stay in power indefinitely. — Joel Kotkin, spiked the time has now arrived for Barack Obama to leave Washington and exit American politics, now that his Shadow Presidency — which proved to be even more counter-productive and chaotic than Trump’s first term in office — has gone down in flames. — David Samuels, UnHerd   The worst thing about Obama America: the absence of excellence. Democrats care about government. So it’s unsurprising they used to be about governing well, bringing out the best in leadership. FDR New Deal and World War II victory; Truman Marshall Plan, NATO, UN defending Korea; JFK to the Moon, Cuban Missile Crisis, Tax Reform, Nucle...

24 days to the election. We reported earlier on two happenings working now against Harris: 1) bettors favoring Trump over her, and 2) backlash against Harris’ stances against Catholics. Bettors, all who want to win their wagers, are moving more strongly against Harris. Trump’s current margin over Harris, 9.2%, is the widest it has ever been against the Vice President. See the 10/10 RealClearPolitics chart (click to enlarge):    On polling, the RealClearPolitics average has Harris ahead by 1.8%. But on the same date in 2020, Trump was down to Biden by 9.7%! Harris stands 7.9% worse than did Biden.  If you haven't done so, check out the Harris problem with Catholics.

Harris “Big Mo” No More

The election is four weeks off. The Harris momentum is gone. But there’s still four weeks to go. The facts.     The gaming dailies show bettors as of three days ago moving Trump ahead of Harris (see chart). Harris moved ahead on September 9, the day before her ABC debate with Trump . On October 5, Trump moved back in front. He now leads by 3.8 points. The Harris campaign is about Trump’s unacceptability. Compare the polls. Compare Harris’ lead over Trump with Biden’s lead over Trump on the same day in 2020, and similarly, Hillary’s lead on Trump in 2016. In 2020, Trump this day trailed Biden by 9.7% in the RealClearPolitics poll average. Harris is now ahead by only 2.0%. In  2016, Trump this day trailed Hillary by 5.3% in the RealClearPolitics poll average. Trump won while trailing Hillary by 2.1% in the popular vote. Harris now leads by 2.0%.   The importance of religion. Harris has a problem with Catholics that the media is under-reporting. Please watch a TV ad sh...

Our Cheatin' Harris?

Didn’t ABC feed some version of its questions to Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of her crucial debate with Donald Trump? Not only was she prepared with canned answers for every question that came up, she also seemed unusually relaxed for this consequential, first encounter with Trump, the man whose debate had destroyed President Biden just 75 days earlier. It was as if Harris knew in advance how the debate would play out. Your not shocked, right? In 2016 Hillary Clinton, far more experienced and poised on the national stage, benefited from CNN debate questions fed to her  by Democratic Chair Donna Brazile in advance of a Clinton primary debate. We won’t find proof that ABC tipped off Harris. By now, operatives have learned to watch what goes into emails such as Brazile’s eight years ago. The ABC information would have passed to the Harris team without a paper trail. Look. Today, we don’t even know  whether or not Harris actually worked at McDonalds, as claimed. We do kno...

Truth or Consequences?

“You can fool all the people some of the time.   .   .” With the election just 70 days away,   Article by Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University   [Excerpts:] Tim Walz in his speech before the Democratic National Convention [] claimed that Vice President Harris was not just a moderate but “never hesitated to reach across that aisle if it meant improving your lives, and she’s always done it with energy, with passion and with joy.”  Harris was one of the most liberal members of the Senate and was never viewed as someone likely to form a compromise on key votes. She was not one of the Democrats commonly referenced as moderates in that body on close votes.  Harris was even rated to the left of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). After her ranking by GovTrack was cited widely in the media  as showing her as the most liberal member of the Senate, the site took down the page, which had been up fo...

The Communist October 1917 Russian Revolution overthrew what had been a corrupt Czarist regime and doing so, captured the worldwide intelligencia’s imagination. Liberation from history’s “Devine Right of Kings” tyranny comes in two basic forms, defined by philosopher Isaiah Berlin in 1958 as “positive liberty” and “negative liberty.” “Positive liberty" is freedom "to do" certain things; “negative liberty” is freedom "from" things (especially government power). Positive liberty is idealistic, associated with grand political dreams from great minds, from Hegel, Rousseau, Marx . Positive liberty says: "I know what’s best for you.” Positive liberty would if necessary overcome negative liberty’s God-given protective rights, rights enshrined in America’s Bill of Rights. Positive liberty is, at its worst, totalitarian. Negative liberty’s "from" is the 1776 American revolution. Positive liberty’s "to do" is both the 1789 French revolution...
