A just completed Harris Survey for the nonpartisan group “No Labels” covered 10 congressional swing districts.* 

It found:

  • Voters in all districts less likely to support those voting to spend a new $4 trillion.
  • Voters less likely to support those voting to raise taxes by $1.8 trillion.
  • Voters less likely to support those voting to expand the deficit by $2 trillion.
  • 2/3rds of voters concerned that raising taxes could cost the economy jobs.
  • 60% fear new corporate taxes will hit those beyond the wealthy.
  • Voters concerned Democrats favor a tax-and-spend welfare state while avoiding country’s big problems.

Newt Gingrich has a list of  "American Majority” views that reject what Democrats currently offer the people. He plans to use list to help Republicans recapture the House next year.  

The Gingrich list:

  • 90% of Americans want people who illegally enter the country to be tested for COVID-19 before they are released.
  • 87% want mandatory deportation for noncitizen gang members.
  • 85% of Americans favor religious freedom.
  • 81% of Americans favor school choice for every child.
  • 81% want photo identification to vote.
  • 80% of Americans want to fund fully police and law enforcement.
  • 75% of Americans oppose taxpayer-provided giveaways (welfare, health care, free college) for people illegally in the country.
  • 74% favor mandatory life in prison for cop killers.
  • 72% favor mandatory prison sentences for anyone attacking police.
  • 66% of Americans favor restoring pro-family, gender-based language, reversing the House’s erasing “mother, father, son, daughter” and other gendered terms from House documents.

“It’s Over” indeed.

Julian Epstein is a Democratic Party strategist who helped President Clinton navigate through sticky political issues. Epstein faults Obama for “a set of ideas and tactics” causing the Democrats’ 2024 loss, including “Demography is Destiny” — “a kind of manifest destiny of the left, adopted in the second Obama term, that promises an ever-diversifying electorate would inexorably vote Democratic [influenced by] cartoonish appeals to identity and big government wardship.”  Epstein also hit Obama’s emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), on the era’s hormone therapies and surgeries on youth, and the failure of Obama’s leaning toward Iran and away from Israel in the Middle East. Republicans represent the restive masses below, itching for freedom from elite domination. University of Texas professor Michael Lind describes how elites took control during Covid. Professionals are elite: the three occupations with the greatest proportion donating to Democrats are professors, librarians, and therapists, along with nurses and teachers. By contrast, Republicans have relied on small-business donations. The lockdowns devastated small business; they are furious, many out of work.
