Critical Race Theory Threatens the Constitution (II)

Thomas-Greenfield Andrew Sullivan |
I [say], on the international stage, that I have personally experienced one of America’s greatest imperfections. I have seen for myself how the original sin of slavery weaved white supremacy into our founding documents and principles. But I also shared these stories to offer up an insight, a simple truth I’ve learned over the years: Racism is not the problem of the person who experiences it. [emphasis added]
— Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Ambassador to the UN
Thomas-Greenfield is one of the "90 percent" of Barack Obama veterans carrying his battles forward into Biden’s presidency. Obama’s one-time assistant secretary of state for African affairs, Thomas-Greenfield now represents America at the UN. Yes, the Thomas-Greenfield who believes white supremacy is woven into our Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
The country is moving from its Bill of Rights freedoms — a shift even liberals recognize (see here). Andrew Sullivan is a past editor of the liberal New Republic, and was writer-in-large at New York for five years until he “resigned” last year. His parting words:
any writer not actively committed to critical theory in questions of race, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity is actively, physically harming co-workers merely by existing in the same virtual space.
Sullivan's resignation letter went on to describe himself as one who:
pioneered marriage equality, support[s] legalized drugs, criminal-justice reform, more redistribution of wealth, aggressive action against climate change, police reform, a realist foreign policy, and laws to protect transgender people from discrimination, [and] was one of the first journalists in established media to come out [as gay].
So Sullivan’s attack on the Left and critical race theory carries special weight.
Sullivan this month wrote:
The elites, increasingly sequestered within one political party and one media monoculture, educated by colleges and private schools that have become hermetically sealed against any non-left dissent, have had a “social justice reckoning” these past few years. And they have been ideologically transformed, with countless cascading consequences.
Sullivan calls “the successor ideology” what the “liberal white elites” impose on us. It’s “white supremacy” saturated with “anti-Blackness,” misogyny, and transphobia. The term “successor ideology” works because this replacement ideology seeks, “first and foremost, to repeal and succeed a liberal society and democracy.”
Sullivan believes “the successor ideology” offers a “nightmare of oppression and violence.” We are either “on the right side of history,” or we are “abetting evil. There is no neutrality. No space for skepticism. No room for debate. No space even for staying silent”. (They call silence violence — to Sullivan “the most profoundly anti-liberal slogan ever invented.”)
He says we face the end of due process, the rejection of even an attempt at objectivity. They require using race and sex discrimination (“equity”) to overcome white supremacy, and give us left-indoctrination in place of liberal education.
Here’s Sullivan’s catalog of how far the left’s war on liberalism has moved:
- Due process? If you’re a male on campus, gone.
- Privacy? Stripped away — by anonymous rape accusations, exposure of private emails, violence against people’s private homes, screaming at folks in restaurants, sordid exposés of sexual encounters, eagerly published by woke mags.
- Non-violence? Exceptions are available if you want to “punch a fascist.”
- Free speech? Only if you don’t mind being fired and ostracized as a righteous consequence.
- Free association? You’ve got to be kidding. Religious freedom? Illegitimate bigotry. Equality? Only group equity counts now, and individuals of the wrong identity can and must be discriminated against.
- Color-blindness? Another word for racism. Mercy? Not for oppressors. Intent? Irrelevant. Objectivity? A racist lie. Science? A manifestation of white supremacy. Biological sex? Replaced by socially constructed gender so that women have penises and men have periods.
- The rule of law? Not for migrants or looters. Borders? Racist. Viewpoint diversity? A form of violence against the oppressed.
Sullivan notes this “greatest radicalization of the elites since the 1960s” is being imposed from above, undergirded by mainstream media propaganda, with its victims often the poor, black, and brown.
Rays of Hope
1. Trafalgar Group CEO Robert Cahaly says their polling shows Critical Race Theory (CRT) is a major election issue. Average Americans care about what their children are being taught.
2. Mark Penn of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll reported that 61% of those polled do not believe students should be taught that America is structurally racist and is dominated by white supremacy.
3. Russ Vought, president of Center for Renewing America and Trump’s former OMB Director, states that people already know CRT “is not about learning history, it is indoctrination that America is systemically racist and people should be judged based on the color of their skin, instead of the content of their character.”
4. Conservative black Project “21” co-chair Horace Cooper argues there is no racial problem — we have more intermarriage than ever. Cooper adds to watch out for how Barack Obama talks past an assertion as if it was “fact.” Doing so, Obama avoids having to prove the assertion. (Source: “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” 6/8/21, @ 0:56)
