D.C. Where Democracy Goes to Die?

The U.S. Justice Department is out of line. Last year, we talked about how wrong it is for conservative commentators to compare Biden’s Justice Department to a “Banana Republic” operation. The current situation is more serious than bananas in Honduras. 

At the outset of World War I (1914-18), Imperial Germany launched a surprise invasion of neutral Belgium to get to France. German generals responded to unexpected Belgian resistance with terror, killing innocent civilian men, priests, women, and children. The Allies branded the executions the “Rape of Belgium .” Stories of innocent Belgians being slaughtered mobilized Allied popular support far more effectively than did German propaganda aimed at Germans — newspaper cartoons showing fumbling Allied resistance to their army’s advance. 

What Democrats + media + Washington D.C.’s “Deep State” is doing to American justice isn’t like (funny ha ha) "banana" republics. It’s more Stalin’s Soviet Union. The end justifies the means — any means. Trump is now indicted for saying the 2020 election was a fraud. For speech, Biden’s Justice Dept. wants to imprison the leading Republican for the rest of his life! 

Our First Amendment allows anyone, even Trump, free speech. Without freedom of speech, our 1789 Constitution's Bill of Rights becomes worthless, as meaningless as the 1936 Soviet Constitution. It guaranteed Soviets a “freedom of speech” (Article 125) that rolled into the Great Purge (1936-38) and Lavernty Beria’s NKVD secret police. 

Stalin’s Great Purge killed an estimated 700,000 high-level Communist officials and their families. The NKVD’s show trials were one-sided events orchestrated to justify the Purge to Russia's masses. Moscow show trials saw their echo in the January 6 TV show hearings House Democrats put on last year, with GOP Trump opponents Liz Chaney and Adam Kinzinger propped up as “the other side.”
